​The Missouri State Lunatic Asylum No. 2 opened its doors November 9. 1874.  The Hospital followed the Kirkbride plan built on large grounds to provide a safe haven for patients.  The staggered wings allowed sunlight into all areas of the building.

Nurses are responsible for cleaning, lighting lanterns, and bringing in coal as well as caring for patients.
